Mrs Gerry Takamura
I am the Principal of Oxford Business College, an independent higher education institution in the centre of the city of Oxford which specialises in post-18 Business and English qualifications. I have been involved in education for over 25 years, both internationally and in the UK, most of my work has been in academic management but I have also worked in business development, teaching and admissions. I gained my degree in history, then postgraduate teaching and currently I am carrying out doctoral research in 19th century history and education. Over the years I have lived and studied in Japan, I was the first UK student to be awarded a Rotary scholarship to Japan when a teenager. For the past 16 years I have worked for a large university - the University of East Anglia as well as for smaller, more specialist colleges dealing with English programmes, Foundation, BTECS as well as BA and MBA degrees. Outside of work I am passionate about supporting the social enterprise cause, businesses that use profit to benefit communities. I also love to travel and really enjoy meeting people from all over the world. At the heart of my work though, it has remained the same – to support and empower students and help them achieve their goals.
